Georgianna Elliot Award

Georgianna Elliot was a pioneering Deaf feminist. In 1886, she appealed to the Convention of American Instructors of the Deaf to allow deaf women an opportunity to acquire a college education—an opportunity that didn’t exist. The following year, Gallaudet College opened its doors to deaf women. Elliot enrolled the following year. This award, honoring outstanding service on behalf of the Deaf Community, was presented to Moore at Deaf Celebration’98 in Dallas. Below: the text of the program booklet.
