Matthew Scott Moore

ASLTA’s 2nd NPDC, April 2003

Matthew coordinated ASLTA’s Second National Professional Development Conference, held at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown from April 10-13, 2003. The conference theme was “Racing for Excellence—Put ASL Teachers in the Winner’s Circle!” It was a bigger, more elaborate undertaking than the 1999 conference had been, and was even more successful, with a bigger turnout.

Once again, Matthew and his tiny staff coordinated, planned, designed, and produced. Working closely with ASLTA and Marriott executives, they set up a dedicated Website for registrants, prepared individualized barcoded passports for each participant, made CEU arrangements, scheduled presentations and workshops, and worked out the logistical details. Matthew oversaw innumerable details: the design and preparation of the program books. signage, and badges; record-keeping; catering arrangements; exhibitors’ tables; the Friday-night Silent Auction Gala; the Saturday-night VIP Party. Each registrant received an attractive imprinted 3-ring portfolio and other souvenirs, including NPDC keycards.

The above letter, from Wendi Lood, a Marriott executive who was in frequent communication with Matthew—they also met several times as the plans developed—is indicative of the high degree of professionalism he has attained, and the respect he has earned from those in the field who have had the pleasure of working with him. Ms. Lood told him that she appreciated the work he had done, because it made her job so much easier.
