Matthew Scott Moore

Deaf Rochesterians’ Newsmagazine

DRN, as it was called, made its debut win December 1987, and was published through June 1989, with a final issue appearing in November 1994. The attractive magazine-size monthly covered local news of interest to the Deaf Community, and included a calendar of upcoming events, news of local Deaf/HH organizations and groups, and imajor NTID happenings.

DRN was launched after Matthew’s team published the Trial Issue of DEAF LIFE, which was sent out in July 1987. While the team waited for subscription orders to come in and planned stories for the upcoming magazine, they worked on DRN. After DEAF LIFE began monthly publication in July 1988, the two publications—local and nattional—appeared monthly. Finally, Matthew decided to focus his now-small staff’s energies on DEAF LIFE, and DRN folded. Its 1987-89 issues are still of historical interest, and make good reading.
